Healthcare Industry cannot Work without Uninterrupted Power Supply

Uninterrupted power supply assumes greater importance and criticality than the healthcare industry. For this industry the absence of UPS battery is not only related to profit and loss but it also equates to loss of precious life which cannot be recovered at any cost. Let understand its importance in detail especially in view of increasing power outages in hospitals.

Life saving machines

There are many life saving medical equipments like a ventilator, baby incubator etc which run on electricity and are critical to the person staying alive. A sudden power outage and lack of critical power supply can lead to the death of the patients which cannot be restored once the electricity is restored. These units must run uninterrupted.

Critical during operations

In any hospital multiple numbers of operations and surgeries are being executed almost round the clock. A power outage would not only let some machines unfit to be used but will also make the surgeon impossible to continue with surgery in the darkened surgery room. This can lead to accident like wrong cut etc and is guaranteed to lead to death. Consequently this would lead to a lawsuit against both the doctor and the hospital. This equates to loss of both credibility and finances and eventually business. This is the reason why having high operating temperature battery is of utmost important.

Important data on computers

Most of finances, the hospital room status, patients’ information, doctor’s diagnosis, evaluation and medication and many other data are constantly being fed and stored in computers. An unexpected loss of power can lead to an immediate closure of the computer and possible loss of critical data. This would not only lead to loss of finances and data but also raises high probability of data getting mixed up as well during restoration process. Consequently wrong diagnosis and medication may be prescribed to a patient leading to his death.

Laboratory

Any hospital would have a test laboratory where number of tests is being carried out. A power outage would bring everything to a standstill, mixing up of samples results and all possible imaginable chaos.

Thus it is clear that getting a top low maintenance battery installed in a hospital is critical and essential and not an optional criterion.

Why the Banking Industry needs Uninterrupted Power Supply

The technological advancements of today’s world have made some irreplaceable changes in all aspects of our life. Nevertheless, most of these technical advancements require a continuous and steady power supply. Absence of continuous power can bring all especially business world to a standstill even those of governments. To avert the drastic consequences AC UPS battery backup are considered essential for varied industries like health industry, retail distribution sector, data centers, finance sector, emergency services and public organizations. Let’s understand the importance in terms of the banking sector.

Necessity and importance of UPS for banks

Banks are an integral part of our life and their smooth and uninterrupted running is critical for seamless life of the public. Unfortunately while a major attention is paid to all kinds of security there, putting enough emphasis on UPS Battery often gets omitted amongst the most crucial work. Thus majority of those omitting it face some severe consequences whenever a power outage occurs. The decision making administrative bodies realize too late the hidden and sudden unnecessary expenditure that the bank has to incur for improving the corrupted information or trying to recoup and recapture lost data.

The power quality issues manifesting as power spikes, surges, voltage fluctuation may be sufficient to cause irreparable damage to sensitive electronic devices like hard disks, servers, PC power supplies etc. Regular occurrences of such incidents can breakdown sensitive electronic devices like main frames of other sensitive and highly expensive devices. Bank inevitable has lockers which are under electronic security and surveillance. A power failure can leave them highly vulnerable to unpleasant incidents like bank robbery and theft.

Once the seriousness and the gravity of the situation are well understood, it is imperative that all banks install a power backup system in place with immediate effect. More over it should be taken from a reputed professional who understand the bank’s scenario and requirements well and presents a tailor made solution to them with regular maintenance. This can ensure a hassle free, safe and secure running of all activities of the bank and profitability in the business.

Importance of Uninterruptible Power Supplies for IT Systems in Business

Today, electricity has become the lifeline of the business and the corporate world. They are heavily dependent on computers and other IT systems which run exclusively on electricity. Even a microsecond of power loss can equate to loss in millions. Thus to safeguard against such disaster need of protected power systems have become necessary and is increasingly getting popular as uninterrupted power supply (UPS) systems. These units not only regulate incoming power but also supply intermittent power at times of power outage. Let’s understand the importance of these systems for the IT department.

Protection of hardware

Computers are quite fragile units. Unexpected power outage leads to an improper shut down of the computer which raises the possibility of the hard drive getting destroyed notches higher. As a result, the hard drive may not spin properly or the system may not recognize the hard drive. This may equate to both data loss as well as hardware going bad. The loss of time, business, data, energy and money becomes quite sizeable here.

Fluctuating voltage can also cause similar issues as well as unnecessary overheating of the systems. Sometimes in old buildings, clean power, that is, power with right voltage and frequency do not get supplied. This can cause unnecessary high electricity consumption leading to its inefficiency and general and gradual deterioration of its components.

Sudden shut down of IT systems can lead to online transactions and sales getting interrupted and manifesting as sizeable financial loss as well as loss of credibility.

All of the above mentioned issues can be easily resolved and taken care of by installing cyclic batteries system in the right manner.

Saving of employees’ work

Uninterrupted power supply means that all data stored in the computer do not get lost or corrupted due to sudden shutdown of IT systems. Even individual data gets safeguarded on each employee’s system.

Downtime is minimized

With the deployment of creditable power backup systems, any organization’s downtime is highly minimized and sometimes even eliminated both in terms of productivity and efficiency. The secret lies in installing the most appropriate system for your business such as deep cycle battery or solar power battery as per one’s requirement.

Thus the importance of UPS for IT systems in business cannot be overemphasized.

UPS – More than just a resource

Industry, business, hospitality service, communication networks, all the sectors have one thing in common- the usage of power and electricity as one of the most important source for smooth functioning of the system. The systems like computers are loaded with protection software to protect internal damages. But often, the need for UPS battery may be neglected, and its use in growth and development may be unaddressed. Hence, several ways in which a UPS system may benefit are as follows:

Protection of the device: There are several circumstances where power outrages and surges occur. In these situations, there may be an internal jerk or shock caused to the device leading to permanent damage caused to them. Hence, installing a high operating temperature battery may aid in regular power supply even after power cuts and provide enough bandwidth to control the system and handle the work flow. The kicks and surges are controlled by the batteries. The load coverage required by the devices is calculated accurately using the Power Shield Calculator.

Backup for personal information: on sudden power cuts, the data or the current going work may disrupt leading to losses of data and other valuable information. Retrieval of this information may not be possible. The UPS keeps the power and functionality and aids in preventing permanent losses. The overall systems like those of banks and communication which depend on electrical supply may collapse on loss of data. Hence, an efficient system which is capable to bear the power load during cuts is essential.

Enhancing financial income: small duration power cuts stop several transactions, deals and other important work procedures which may divert the task and cause an overall loss to the company. Hence, to increase profits and keep the work flow in smooth flow, a UPS system catering all needs must be installed.

The above advantage can be enjoyed only when the system is taken care off. The system of low maintenance battery has become a common commodity in all spheres. To ensure its proper functioning, regular checkups and services are essential. Replacements of the damaged parts or the battery whenever required must be done. It is recommended that the batteries must be replaced in every 5 to 6 years.

Maintenance Tips of Deep Cycle Batteries

In contrast to the automotive type of batteries that most of us are used to, a deep cycle battery has some specific and unique maintenance requirements. Some of them, which must be followed religiously, are –

Charging

Even though these cyclic batteries come charged from the manufacturers itself and are ready-to-use, they must be fully charged by you before they are used. A charger must always be carried with them as they require multiple recharging at various stages unlike the single stage charging of automotive battery. To reach their maximum storage capacity, these batteries require numerous charge/discharge cycles. Till it is reached, they should never be completely depleted. The batteries are designed to be discharged and charged innumerable times during its service life. They must always be charged with a quality multiple stage charger and preferably with a built in "float mode" that can keep the batteries fully charged for longer periods when not in use. Thus, they also aid in increasing its service life.

Keep the battery clean

A main maintenance technique for these batteries which is often overlooked is cleaning the residues from its top surface. If not cleaned regularly, these residues get built up on the top and facilitate a ‘circuit’ between the positive and the negative terminals. This may trigger a discharge from the battery. Thus, the top and especially the positive and negative terminals must be properly cleaned with a wire brush. It’s a smart tip to coat the ports with a thin layer of grease. This blocks any oxidation process which may make your battery drop. They must be regularly inspected visually to ensure that they are not dropped or struck by anything. When placed in a boat, they must ideally be placed in a battery box which provides a security to the battery from dirt and even shock movement.

Equalizing

The batteries must be regularly ‘equalized’ by providing a low current charge for extended time even after the normal charging cycle has completed. This keeps the battery cells balanced and give out equal performance during use. This must be done at least once a week. The battery should also reach fully charged condition at least once every three weeks.
